Harris County Employee Walking Club

Take the first steps to improving your health by joining the Weekly Walking Club. Meet some new people, or hang out with old friends, while walking the streets of Downtown Houston. We will walk approximately 2 miles in about 30 minutes, taking a new route each week to keep things interesting. Remember to bring your towel and water bottle. This club is welcome to all Harris County Employees covered under the Cigna insurance plan!

Why is there a limit of 15 people?

There is a limit of 15 people because we want to ensure that everyone is safe walking along the busy streets of Downtown Houston. Since there is currently only 1 leader, 15 people is the max number of people who can be closely monitored. It is very challenging for everyone to walk at the exact same pace for the duration of the walk, therefore, limiting the number of participants during each session will reduce gapping during the walk.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

You are encouraged to bring a water bottle and towel. In addition, perform your normal routine for outdoor activity. If needed, please apply sunscreen, wear a visor or hat, and/or sunglasses.

You are welcome to wear headphones to listen to music, but please only put one ear bud in your ear so that you can hear sirens, car horns, and verbal directions from the walking club leader.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

You do not have to bring a printed confirmation page, a roster will be saved before each date with all names of those registered for that date and time. Please come on the date you signed up for.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Unfortunately, we will not allow someone to participate who has not registered for the event due to liability reasons. If an employee no longer wishes to attend, please cancel the reservation so that someone next in line on the waiting list can have an opportunity to reserve that spot.
